The NorthCap University (formerly Institute of Technology and Management popularly known as ITM) was founded in 1996, to promote excellence in Technical and Management education by Educate India Society, registered under the Registration of Societies Act of 1860. The Institution was conceived as Institute of Technology and Management in response to the acute deficiency of centres of higher learning in the country as also, the need to develop relevant human capital to meet the technology and management challenges of the 21st century. The founders had a clear and well defined mission - to build an unaided, self - financed Institution committed to delivering education of internationally recognized standards, a institute that would go on to serve as an intellectual resource base in India and the sub-continent. The Institute gained the status of private university in the Academic Year 2009-10, and was renamed ITM University under section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 and Haryana Private Universities (Third Amendment) Act No 25 of 2009, Government of Haryana. Subsequently the University has been rebranded as The NorthCap University, Gurugram (NCU) in August 2015. At present the University imparts education in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering, management, sciences and law. It is recognized by various government and regulatory bodies for teaching and awarding degrees. The University is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI). The University has been consistently ranked among premier institutions of higher education in India. Schools of Engineering and Technology and School of Management have encouraged quality education that is distinctly interdisciplinary and international. School of Law (SOL) founded in year 2010 has maintained this tradition and poised for taking a big leap in legal education. Committed to making a profound and lasting contribution to society, NCU recognises its exalted role of creating ‘Educated Citizens’ - citizens with a powerful sense of fairness, a profound belief in democratic ideals and a willingness to celebrate talent of many kinds. For the founders, this goal is rich with meaning. Our aim from the beginning has been to make this University the most eminent in the country, in order to draw to it the youth of the nation and beyond. The University has established an Institution of Innovation Council (IIC) as per norms of MHRD, Govt. of India. Some of the best practices which differentiate NCU with other universities are the Thought Lab established with the aim of developing positive attitude, reducing negative energy and stress and improving the overall development of staff and students and Parent Information System to update the progress of their children studying at the University. The Vice Chancellor Innovation Fund promotes and encourages students and faculty members in exploring innovative ideas. The Incubation Centre established in the University provides the students a platform to propose, create and incubate their ideas in respect of the programme which they are studying. Further the University has also set up a unique Design Centre to bring all emerging technology like Data Science, Full Stack, Cyber Security, Internet of Things and Game Technology under one roof through visualisation, infographics and interactive AR applications. Three of our senior Professors who are mentors have figured in the top 2% scientists of world based on the data created by Stanford University, on the basis of standardized citations indicators. The University has been consistently ranked in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) over the last five years. NCU achieved a new milestone, in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship category by being ranked in Band 'A' (rank 6 to 25th) in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) by the Vice President in August 2020. In the Swachh Bharat Ranking by the Govt. of India, the University has been ranked 'Fifth' in the Non-residential category. For more process driven and practical oriented, teaching learning, NCU has signed MoUs with premier institutions of the country like National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), India Meteorological Department and National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) and Space Application Centre (SAC) ISRO, Ahmedabad to facilitate faculty, researchers and students to familiarise with the latest trend and techniques and to bridge the Industry-academia gap. This is a voluntary initiative under the Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR). The NorthCap University stands faithful to the vision of its founders - it seeks students and faculty who take seriously their commitment to their community and their world, who are aware, active and involved. Students who graduate from NCU are expected to understand the technological, environmental and ethical challenges they will face in a world of accelerating change.
